The house
A dar restored room by room
Dar Dou is a traditional house in the Medina of Tunis that its owners spent several years restoring. Every material and every finish was chosen to keep the character of the house while bringing it up to today’s standards of comfort: the layout of a Tunis dar, with a calm, carefully finished interior.
Life here revolves around the patio. It lights the whole house and sets the mood of your stay: the light shifts through the day, and the pool sits at its centre. Guests come back to it to sunbathe, to cool off in summer, or simply to rest after a morning in the souks.
The house also has a generous sitting room, a good place to read or simply enjoy the quiet, and a contemporary kitchen. In winter, underfloor heating keeps the house comfortable on cooler days; in summer, air conditioning takes over.

The rooms
Four rooms, two with a terrace
Each room has its own name. Two of them open onto a private terrace.
- Chambre Étoile
- Chambre Turquoise
- Chambre Porte de France
- Chambre Secrète
Rooms are cleaned after every stay, then checked with photos before the next guests arrive. To find out which rooms have a terrace and which one is free on your dates, ask reception on WhatsApp.

Getting to Dar Dou
Access and arrival
Dar Dou is in the Medina of Tunis, which you explore on foot: cars stop at the gates of the old city. We send you directions to the house before you arrive.
The simplest option is our transfer from Tunis-Carthage airport: our driver knows the ways into the Medina and brings you to the house. Send us your flight number and arrival time in advance. To get around afterwards, the ride-hailing app inDrive is widely used in Tunis; always check the driver’s name and number plate before getting in. The TGM, the historic suburban train, runs to La Goulette, Carthage and Sidi Bou Saïd.
Arriving late? Not a problem: check-in is from 2 pm with no latest time, and a night receptionist will welcome you. Pack luggage that is easy to carry through the lanes.
